  • The Mole Diaries: Lyon

Written by  Jordaine Hulse Saturday, 05 November 2011

Jordaine Hulse is studying French and German with Spanish at Bangor University in Wales, and is currently on her year abroad in Lyon, France. She says she chose Lyon for two reasons: "I thought that going to a big city like Lyon would really give me the full experience of independence on my year abroad, and also Lyon is the gastronomic capital of France – and I love my food... so I felt that we would be a perfect match!

  • Lyon: Chapter 3

Written by  Charlotte Evans Thursday, 27 October 2011

So, I’ve lived in France for two whole months now. What can I say? It’s been a whirlwind. A whirlwind of meeting tons of lovely new people, exploring new places and… (I have to admit) huge, huge piles of paperwork. One thing that all of us ERASMUS students seem to have noticed here in France is that they love their bureaucracy. You will quickly find yourself caught up in vicious circles of paperwork and on goose chases for some random piece of paper without which you won’t be able to do something vital… It’s all very strange.

    Russian Trains
I’m pretty certain that Lonely Planet will provide you with all the advice that I possibly can, but in case you’ve never had the pleasure of owning and falling in love with one until all the pages fall out I suppose I should tell you what I know about Russian trains.

  • Bordeaux, Summarised

Written by  Ines Sordo Sunday, 09 October 2011
Fret not; you don’t need a survival guide to Bordeaux. Unlike the bigger French cities this south western wine haven is big enough to get lost in but small enough to feel straight at home. It also boasts some of the loveliest people you’ll ever meet who will be more than willing to make you try out their equally lovely cuisine. But just in case you want to land there with a good idea of where to take your year-abroad friends to, here are some quick tips.
  • The Mole Diaries: Lille

Written by  Christopher Hall Friday, 28 October 2011

Christopher Hall is 21 and studies French & Linguistics at Queen Mary, University of London. This year he is spending seven months of his year abroad working as an English Language Assistant in two high schools in Loos, in the outskirts of Lille, France. He chose Lille as it provides an urban environment with excellent amenities yet without the expense of living in a capital city, and has speedy transport connections to the UK and many cities throughout continental Europe. Here he passes on his advice about accommodation, getting around town, student discounts, shopping, eating out and the nightlife in Lille.

  • Anna's Year Abroad blog: Flatmates and travelling

Written by  Anna Monday, 24 October 2011

My God, time goes by way too quickly for me. I can’t believe it has been coming up to 2 months of me being here now. Things that were stressing me out in the beginning have definitely improved, such as having adapted to the working hours of a full time job and now being able to stay out late without having to pay for it immediately upon waking up the next day.

  • Week three in Karlsuhe coming up. The last week has been spent finding new hobbies & trying new things, (often with little success), but hey, I'm having fun, speaking German & meeting new people...Long-term accommodation, despite the struggle, is now sorted & I'm well on the way to finding my feet & feeling settled, though the odd skype with friends & family back in England always helps to keep any 'I miss England' moments at bay.

  • One week down, many more to go!

Written by  Becky Keogh Monday, 10 October 2011

Hello from Deutschland! I actually can’t believe I’m here and have 5 minutes free to write this post. I’ve been so busy ever since I left Stafford a week ago and, to be honest, I haven’t looked back! I’ve had so much to keep my mind off of missing home that up 'til now, I hadn’t really thought much about it. I’ll run through some of the things I’ve been through so far, including a fair few things I didn’t actually know about until I got here.
