  • Recent statistics have shown that languages have proven to be less popular in schools, with French taking a real knock at GCSE level. This in turn means that less sixth-formers will study languages at A-Level, which could have - and already has had, in some circles - some disastrous consequences for language departments at university level.

  • I've always been interested in languages. By high school graduation I spoke Spanish, German, French, and Filipino. I started my blog to answer questions about how I learn languages, and I chose "fluent every year" as a fun goal with a unique identity. It turns out, it's already more popular than I ever expected, and I'm still just getting started!

  • Aside from the usual translator or teacher jobs, is there much you can do with languages? People are always quick to reply in the positive, but you've inevitably got that voice in your head going 'Really? Like what exactly?'. Because, let's be honest here, there doesn't seem to be much on offer apart from TEFL. Deciding to work abroad has many benefits, besides filling in a few more lines on your CV. You can gain international work experience, develop your language skills, learn new techniques and methods of working and (hopefully) get paid in the process. • Guest Blog: A career with languages

When I chose to study French and Italian the only thing I was certain about was that I wanted to use the languages I had acquired in my future job.
