She worked as a language assistant in a secondary school.
What were your main concerns?
We wanted her to settle into a new country, have friends & be happy!
What did you do to try and cope with her year abroad?
Not a lot! We did make sure she knew what she needed to do when got to France, for example opening a bank account. But really she knew more than we did!
Let your child get on with it. Don’t interfere. Be there if needed. Keep in touch by email.
In hindsight, do you think you were right to worry as much as you did?
We didn’t worry. We have a sensible, organized and independent daughter!
Is there anything you feel you could have done differently?
Nope!
Would you recommend a year abroad for students?
Yes definitely. It's a wonderful opportunity, not to be missed.
How do you think your daughter benefited from a year abroad?
She is much more confident about travelling and looking after herself in another country.
How do you think you benefited from her year abroad?
Less dirty washing! Cheaper food bill! No travelling to Swansea University at the end of each term!
Would you like your child to do it again?
Yes, especially as Lorna was able to be self-sufficent financially, whilst having a good experience of being abroad.
