    City of Business
Nestled between Paris and Marseille, right where the rivers Saone and Rhône meet, is the fine French cosmopolitan city of Lyon. Dynamic and power-driven, this sophisticated city is France's financial, industrial and commercial powerhouse. The Romans set up shop here, followed by the Italians in the Renaissance period, with the Germans following suit in WWII, making this fine French city a hotchpotch of culture, style and etiquette.

  • Bordeaux

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010
    City of Students
Bordeaux is a city most commonly associated with good, full-bodied French wine, and impressive hôtels particuliers (mansions to you and me). Although this is understandably true, the city itself can blow its own trumpet about many more attractions; a thriving scene for theatre, music and art ensure this city packs a lot of punch.
  • Marseille

    The Mediterranean City
Besides being the largest commercial port, the oldest and the second largest city in France, what more can be said of the shining city of Marseille? Whilst it is certainly rough around the edges, more so than the elegant Paris, but it more than makes up for it in charm!
  • Paris

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010
    The City of Lights
Capital of art, home of haute couture, the city of amour, no matter what you choose to call it, there is one thing you can be sure of: there's no place quite like the mesmerising metropolis of Paris. This city has shaped and been shaped by fashion, art and culture. Paris is a relatively small capital city, compared to its European counterparts. But don't be fooled by its snail-like form (all the arrondissements curl in the shape of the French national mollusc); Paris is a city that breathes culture and kudos, day and night.
  • Linz

    City of the Contemporary
An industrial city which, at first glance, can seem a little grey and not very exciting for a year abroad destination... but the old saying 'don't judge an Austrian city by how many pretty buildings it's got' is exactly what you should be going by!

  • Grenoble

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010
    City of Snow
If your idea of heaven is a dramatic landscape of snow-capped peaks, stone bridges over rivers and the twinkling lights of a hill-top town, then look to the South East of France at the foot of the French Alps and you'll find the city of Grenoble which will be perfect for you!
  • Toulouse

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010
    City of Multiculturalism
Midway between the Mediterranean and Atlantic to the south of France is the city of Toulouse. Perhaps most famous for its cherry red brick buildings, La Ville Rose boasts a large repertoire of fine food; birthplace to national dishes, cassoulet and foie gras, the city is replete with traditional restaurants offering cheap and cheerful menus.
  • Aix-en-Provence

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010
    City of Sun
Otherwise affectionately know as 'Little Paris', the town of Aix-en-Provence is just as sophisticated as its namesake. The Romans first set up camp in this classic little French town; nowadays, Aix greets a few tourists who make the most of the sizzling sunshine, orange trees and tranquil café culture. Aix is slap bang on the French Riviera coast. Warm weather and good French food are commonplace in this classic French town. Cézanne's birthplace, graced by typical provençal décor (think sand coloured stone, 19th century mansions and fountains and a distant sound of crickets), will have you wanting to crack open the Pernot, and join in the relaxed game of boules going on in the town square.
  • What's out there?

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010
Are you one of the many students who can't decide where to go? Don't worry, with so many cool places to choose from, it's quite easy to get a little indecisive! Why not have a look at:
    • Which are the best international universities (thanks to a nifty League Table)
    • Student case studies about how the year abroad went for them.
  • Graz

    Wednesday, 12 May 2010
    City of the Alternative
The architecture of this sizeable city reflects a varied and colourful past, and matches the city's vibrant atmosphere. Slightly smaller than its cousin Vienna, Graz is packed with museums, galleries and cultural centres. Being less overwhelming than the capital, Graz also boasts its fair amount of green spaces—notably the Botanischer Garten, Graz's answer to Kew Gardens; refreshing to see some greenery in what can only be described as a mish-mash of a town.
