Vienna

Vienna Vienna Krister462
City of Culture
By far the largest city in the country (1.7 million live, breathe and sleep in the Habsburg birthplace), Vienna ticks all the boxes in terms of imperial nostalgia, turn-of-last century culture, and all things majestic. Impressive baroque buildings dispute themselves across the city, and on every corner, every turn, a passer-by can only be in awe of the many architectural delights scattered throughout.

Why should I choose Vienna for my year abroad?
The city is not only famous for its middle-aged women in fur coats, its old-school glamour and acclaimed coffeehouses (pre-Starbucks and cafe Nero), there is so much more to discover!  A plethora of museums and galleries cater to every taste, but by all means throw in a visit to the Kunsthistorisches Museum, which homes one of the greatest art collections in the world. If opera and theatre are more your thing, you'd be hard pushed to find something more decadent than an evening spent in Wiener Staatsoper, where you can experience classical Vienna in all its glory.

Vienna by bcnbitsCool-hunters will be impressed by the more bohemian atmosphere found in the neighbourhoods around the centre, offering eclectic boutiques, one-of-a-kind shops and weekly flea markets. By day, Vienna offers all a culture vulture could ever wish for, and by night, it gives London, Berlin and Paris a run for their electro money. Not traditionally seen as a party capital, Vienna does offer more than its fair share of bars, clubs and funky drinking holes to entertain even the most demanding of punters. Universities and art schools abound, making it a popular European destination for many a painter, musician, actor or any artistically-inclined soul.
