10 multimedia ways to spice up children's French-learning
Thursday, 02 February 2012A friend of mine has an enthusiastic French-loving 14 year-old son who is keen to continue his language learning outside the classroom - not in a pushy-parent way, but in a 'why can I only learn French according to my timetable?' sort of way. I said I could come up with ten fun, interactive, multimedia ways to keep French fresh in his mind in the evenings, weekends and holidays, and thought I would share them with the world - just in case there are other parents (or Language Assistants!) in the same situation. First and foremost though, here is the Why Study Languages? site to kick-start the enthusiasm.

Comenius Assistantships explained
Tuesday, 15 November 2011Becoming a Comenius assistant is a great way to experience first-hand teaching experience if you’re debating getting into teaching as a career choice. During your Comenius assistanship, you will get the opportunity to improve your language skills, work with fellow teachers and gain an insight into teaching techniques and the educational system in other European countries.

Saturday, 03 December 2011Rachel is studying Italian and Spanish at Exeter University and spent her year abroad living in Pisa, Italy, and commuting by train to Viareggio where she was a British Council Language Assistant in a Liceo Scientifico. She says, "I did beginners Italian so I struggled at the beginning but I decided to stay over the summer (up until the start of 4th year this September) after my contract finished with the British Council in May because I loved it so much,and ended up being there for 12 months! I worked in a restaurant in Pisa over the summer for an Italian family and continued teaching English privately."
