TOPIC: Work documents and finance in France
#22
Work documents and finance in France 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello,
I am starting an unpaid research placement in a French lab in September, and was wondering if I need any documents to be able to work in France (it's a 10 month placement).
Also, I am thinking of living in university accommodation. Is there any financial aid available for this or for foreign students generally (apart from Erasmus grants)?
Thanks very much, sorry that's quite a lot

Hi Esther!

Well done on the placement!

Right, we've done a bit of research around French employment and grants...

As long as you're an EU citizen, you don't need any papers apart from your passport to come work in France. However, if you're from outside the EU, you should check out our visa grid

Have you found this job independently? You may be entitled to funding from our work section grants

In terms of help with your housing, if you're planning on living in student halls, you would need to speak to them individually regarding grants.

However, if you're going the independent route, you may entitled to CAF

Hope this is all useful! If you need more help, let us know

Thank you very much! The CAF link is very useful. Since I'm coming from a university I don't think I'm eligible for any of the work funding though.
Thanks again for your help
