Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these foyers that students and young workers can stay in in France. I'm doing a stage in France this summer and am hoping to stay in one of these but the French aren't very forthcoming with telling me about what it is actually like living in a foyer or even how rooms/mealtimes,etc are organised. As far as I can see it seems to be like a hall of residence. If anyone has stayed in one before I'd be really glad to hear some of your experiences.

I think from what I can gather from the website that it's quite similar to a housing cooperative in the UK. People get employed to manage the area, helping the occupants (youths ranging between 16-24 yrs of age) to get the most out of the community.

Been trying to find out a bit more about the meal times etc, but it seems you'd have to apply for a room, or as a helper to get to this kind of information, as they don't seem to disclose it on the site!

Have a look at TYA's Accommodation article, it might give you some ideas of other possible routes, if you don't get through to UNHAJ or you don't think it's right for you.
