I'm studying: Music and German at Lancaster University

For my year abroad I went to: Rheine, Germany for 8 months

While I was there I: Was an English Language Assistant.

Five words to describe my year away are: Emotional, breathtaking, life-changing, fun, amazing.

My top tips for anyone going there are: Say yes to almost every opportunity you can so you can get really involved in the culture and way of life. Join local gyms, orchestras, organisations, find out what is going on in your area as soon as you get there. Hobbies are a great way to meet new people and keeping busy makes you forget missing home.

The cleverest people find accommodation: Online. But my school found accommodation for me :)

Don't leave without: Your passport, you need it for everything!

The best night out is: Index - a club in Schüttorf with many different rooms and the biggest ice bar in the world.

When your parents visit: Take them to Münster, it’s lovely - great for sightseeing, shopping and eating.

My favourite lunch place: Cafe Extrablatt - they are all over the place. The food is great and the waiters/waitresses are always very friendly.

My best place for a hot date: The Aasee at Münster on a pedalo in the sun.

On a Sunday: Go on a bike ride or go to the cinema, there's not much else to do.

If you want to fit in quickly, you should: Get involved in as many activities as you can.
