While I was there I: Worked as an intern for a newspaper.

Five words to describe my year away are: Seductive, addictive, enlightening, tempestuous and breathtaking.

My top tips for anyone going there are: To beware of the monsters that are said to lurk in the lakes of Patagonia in Southern Argentina, but not to let any mythical giant plesiosaurs or manta-rays put you off kayaking in Lago Gutierrez in Bariloche, as it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen!

The cleverest people find accommodation: By using Craigslist.

Don't leave without: Spices!

The best night out is: Crobar.

When your parents visit: Take your mum on the balcony of the Casa Rosada so she can pretend to be Madonna in Evita.

My favourite lunch place: Matilda's Café on the corner of Chile and Chacabuco in San Telmo for amazing wraps, sandwiches, salads, smoothies and cakes if you are missing the British touch.

My best place for a hot date: A moonlit walk in Puerto Madero.

On a Sunday: Go to La Fería de San Telmo on Defensa, the longest outdoor market in the world!

The most useful website I found was: The Argentina Independent. 

If you want to fit in quickly, you should: Never bring up the Falklands/Malvinas conflict.
