Bex is a 3rd year student from Lancaster University, studying French and Spanish. She is spending her first semester studying at the Institut Supérieur de Traducteurs et Interprètes (ISTI) in Brussels, Belgium, before she goes to Granada to study for the second semester. Here she passes on her advice about living in Brussels for the first time, but for the latest, check out her blog which she's keeping updated, so there are more hints and tips to be found there!

Brussels, Belgium - wet, cosmopolitan, multilingual, dirty, fun

I worked in Brussels and had a really good time, the countryside around the capital is also really lovely, it's constantly got something to do so you won't get bored, but it's also quite relaxed compared to other capital cities, so it's not as overwhelming. Polish your beer-drinking skills and never, ever leave your umbrella at home... Check out the Eurotrash group on Facebook too, great nights and events organised by a group of young professionals :-)

  • Spending time abroad is an introduction to a different culture and amazing new friends from all round the world, which is exactly what ThirdYearAbroad.com is all about. Fortunately enough for us, it is also the driving force of the OCEANS Network! I was so happy to be invited to speak at their first Annual AGM and arrived in Brussels to meet 60-or-so students of 21 different nationalities who spent (or will spend) time on an EU exchange programme in North America or the Asia Pacific region.
