I’m the first to admit that I wish I’d taken a year abroad. I took a gap year before university, and I went on to use every possible opportunity to travel in uni holidays etc, but it’s not quite the same thing.
Students at QMUL are encouraged to study abroad thanks to the university’s various links to partner universities across the globe. Students of all departments (with the exception of Law, Medicine and Dentistry) are eligible to apply. At QMUL, Modern Language students can choose to work, study or teach abroad as part of the Erasmus scheme. German students can also choose to study or work abroad at independent German institution, checking with their year abroad coordinators first.
The university of Leicester offers the chance to go abroad for most of its students. That is to say, you don’t need to be studying Modern Languages to go abroad for a year. Generally speaking, other departments outside of Languages tend to have partner universities across the world for you to spend your year abroad in. Here are their schemes:
